About GzStar Wars Legacy
This project is being designed for use with the GzDOOm engine which is a source port of DOOM that combines elements of ZDOOM and DOOM Legacy. GzDOOM is coded by Graf Zahl and as far as I am concerned, pretty much fulfills every thing I could possibly need to re-create the Dark Forces 2 experience within an enhanced, Hi-Res, Sprite based, DOOM enviroment.

The Story:

 ..............................................................................................

Coming Eventually.

About:

Ever since I first played through Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, my life was never the same. It was like everything I could ask for from a video game, let alone one based within the Star Wars universe.

I was very impressed with the movie cut scenes. The acting may have been cheesey, but then again, now that I've scene the prequals, I've come to apriciate these little cut scenes even more! ;)

I also could not get over the fact that everything felt so Star Warsish! The levels spread as far horizontally as they did vertically, which is something you still rarely see in video games today. Infact both of the Sequals to Jedi Knight still have not managed to create stages quite as amazing as those you will find in the original Jedi Knight, not to mention the fact tha Jedi Academy's story line and characters were about as lame as you can get, not to mention the fact that you are pretty much FORCED to play with your Saber out at all times in 3rd person which really took away from the feel of the series. And what's with people's teethe always showing when they talk anyhow!?!?

Thankfully there are a variety of fan made maps for the Jedi Knight series that more than make up for the short comings of the sequals, or at least Jedi Academy as I really didn't mind Jedi Outcast, it's just that it paled in comparison with Dark Forces 2 in the long run.

Needless to say, I somehow got the idea in my head, back in 2001 that it would be fun to learn how to edit for DOOM. I had just became aware of DOOM Legacy and DeepSea so I figured I'd give it a try after putting it off all those years. I was learning as I built so obviously a lot has been shoved into the proverbial trash bin, and of course DOOM Legacy 2.0 never came to be. Fortunatly GzDOOM released and has provided me with more than enough features to fully realize everything I have in mind.

I do not feel it would be much fun to know what to expect before the project is released, but in short I'll say that I am mimmicking the basic Map Lay out of Jedi Knight as much as possible meaning there is infact plenty of platforming in high rising vertical shafts which I know to some FPS fans this is more of a burden than a boon. As for me, I guess I just played too much Jedi Knight and Jumping Flash so I find nothing more enjoyable than hoping from platform to platform in a huge elevator or factory shaft of some sort, with the promise of death far below. :)

Of couse the game will feature more than platforming, as I have been putting together a Hi-Res texture and Sprite pack for the game, and have been slowly expaning my knowledge of Fraggle Script and ACS to give the game a bit of an RPG feel, not to mention to obtain the ability to create many new enemies, weapon types and so on and so forth. Infact I've been spending a lot of time reading Star Wars novels, comics, and researching on the Star Wars wiki for inspiration. No worries though as I won't be taking much inspiration from a lot of the comics out there due to there overly comic booky nature. ;)

Screen shots for this project will be posted eventually, as for now the reason I do not post any is because of the order in which I work. Basically I go through and jump from map to map, adding a bit here and there, then I'll work on my textures for a while, then my sprites, and then scripting, and so on and so forth, so basically I work on bits and pieces here and there, and have yet to compile it all into one lump where it would be more worthy of screen shots. Though if you keep your eyes on the forums I do release small glimpses at maps and what not as I work on them and ask for help and advise.
